Baseball Recap: Dr. Krop Drops Highest Score of Season Against Northwestern

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dr. Krop). Everything went their way against the Northwestern Bulls on Friday as Dr. Krop made off with a 20-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lightning with their most commanding win of the season.

Lucas Rodriguez looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.

At the plate, Dr. Krop got a massive performance out of Randy Mercedes, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Mercedes is becoming a predictor of Dr. Krop's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Marco Loreto also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Dr. Krop kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

The win made it two in a row for Dr. Krop and bumps their season record up to 5-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Northwestern, they moved to 7-3 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dr. Krop will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Monsignor Pace at 6:30 p.m. on April 1. As for Northwestern, they will head out to challenge Sandalwood at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
