Basketball Recap: Monroe's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Monroe had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 53-45 victory over the Stanwood Spartans. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Spartans are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jack Edlund and Cole Williams certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Edlund posted 12 points and five rebounds, while Williams went 5 for 10 on his way to 10 points and four steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jett Brager, who had eight points.

Monroe pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Stanwood, they moved to 4-11 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Monroe will welcome Marysville-Pilchuck at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe is facing Marysville-Pilchuck at the right time seeing as Marysville-Pilchuck is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
