Basketball Recap: Ashley Takes a Loss

Ashley was the 52-51 winner over Topsail when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Ashley Screaming Eagle were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 65-64 to the Topsail Pirates. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), the Screaming Eagle still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Ashley still got an impressive performance from Quinn Bentley, who went 11-for-16 on his way to 29 points and three steals. Those 29 points gave Bentley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nate Jarrell, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points.

Topsail got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elijah Hebron out in front who went 6-for-9 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Henry, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Ashley and nudges their season record down to 10-13. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points over those games. As for Topsail, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-13.

Coming up, Ashley is taking a road trip to challenge North Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Brunswick is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season. As for Topsail, they will be playing at home against Laney at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Topsail knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Laney likes a good challenge.
