Baseball Game Preview: McCluer North Stars vs. Hazelwood East Spartans

McCluer North has gone 9-1 against Hazelwood East recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Stars will take on the Spartans at 4:15 p.m. McCluer North has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

McCluer North came up short against Ladue Horton Watkins on Saturday, falling 16-1. The Stars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

McCluer North saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Telly Cornell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Cornell is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Hazelwood East's offense. They lost 16-0 to Gateway Legacy Christian Academy on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Spartans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

McCluer North's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Hazelwood East, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5-1.

McCluer North was able to grind out a solid win over Hazelwood East when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
