Basketball Game Preview: Commonwealth Mermaids vs. Woodward Wildcats

Commonwealth is 0-4 against Woodward since January of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Commonwealth Mermaids will host the Woodward Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Woodward took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Commonwealth, who comes in off a win.

Commonwealth will bounce into Monday's game after beating Marie Philip, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Commonwealth pulled ahead with a 28-27 photo finish over Marie Philip back in December of 2024. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mermaids as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Woodward played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 44-16 loss at the hands of Marie Philip. The Wildcats were down 38-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Commonwealth lost to Woodward at home by a decisive 31-13 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2016. Can Commonwealth avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
