Recap: Victory Christian Center Kings vs. Creekside Christian Academy Cougars
Even though the Creekside Christian Academy Cougars scored an imposing 70 points on Saturday, the Victory Christian Center Kings still came out on top. Victory Christian Center managed a 74-70 victory over Creekside Christian Academy. Given Victory Christian Center's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 30th in North Carolina, while Creekside Christian Academy is ranked 98th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Victory Christian Center's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xavier Perry led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Alius Bowser, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
Creekside Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cedric Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Taylor hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Reddick, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Creekside Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Victory Christian Center only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Victory Christian Center is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Creekside Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-8.
Victory Christian Center will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Norman Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Lake Norman Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. Creekside Christian Academy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Konos Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Konos Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
