Football Recap: Lamar Takes a Loss

Lamar scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 44-43 to the Haltom Buffalos. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (40), the Vikings still had to take the loss.

Lamar's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tayrone Thomas, who rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Another receiver making a difference was Khamill Pruitt, who picked up 226 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Haltom's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Vudrico Roberson, who rushed for 153 yards and four TDs. That's the most rushing touchdowns Roberson has posted since back in October of 2024. Elijah Lewis also helped out with an impressive 141 receiving yards.

Lamar now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Haltom, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Lamar and South Grand Prairie will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,073 yards in their previous games. As for Haltom, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Grand Prairie at 7:00 p.m. on October 9. The Buffalos will be up against the Gophers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.4 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
