Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs  on Friday. Byers fell  50-44 to Calhan. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game  last Friday (36), Byers still had to take the loss.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was   James Maes, who threw for 192 yards and three  TDs, and also rushed for 34 yards. Another receiver making a difference was  Benjamin McPherson, who picked up 91 receiving yards and a pair of  scores.
 Special teams also played a big role in the game for Byers, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of  Caleb Eastwood, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from  McPherson.
Byers'  defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Calhan, the  win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-4.
 Coming up, Byers will be playing at home against St. Mary's  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least 31  points  in their last three games. Calhan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
