Recap: Grand Valley Cardinals vs. Rifle Bears
The Grand Valley Cardinals''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a serious blow against Rifle, falling 49-7. Grand Valley has struggled against Rifle recently, as their contest on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Logan Gross continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rifle, throwing for 118 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Gross' longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards. Another player making a difference was Ryland Lane, who rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Grand Valley's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.3 points per game. As for Rifle, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Grand Valley will head out on the road to face off against Moffat County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Moffat County is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Rifle, they will be playing at home against Coal Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Coal Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Rifle is ranked 41st).
