Recap: Ponchatoula Green Wave vs. Liberty Magnet Patriots
On Thursday, the Ponchatoula Green Wave faced the Liberty Magnet Patriots in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ponchatoula received a tough blow as they fell 66-49 to Liberty Magnet. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ponchatoula has scored all season.
Liberty Magnet was led to victory by Howard Gaskins Jr. and Jaylen Peters. Gaskins Jr. scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Peters dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Gaskins Jr.'s ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Malek Robinson, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Ponchatoula's loss dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Liberty Magnet, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.
Ponchatoula will be playing in front of their home fans against Salmen at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty Magnet, they will face off against Evangel Christian Academy at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday. Evangel Christian Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
