Basketball Game Preview: Westfield Wolverines vs. Maple Grove Red Dragons

The Westfield Wolverines will face off against the Maple Grove Red Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westfield has eight straight wins, Maple Grove has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Westfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Gowanda 88-51 on Saturday. The Wolverines have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.

Westfield had a senior duo take command as Zach Maguire shot 4-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double on 32 points and 19 boards and Carson Swanson went 8 of 18 on his way to 27 points in addition to six assists and six steals. The match was Swanson's 31st in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Beadle, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Maple Grove was beaten by Randolph 69-25 two weeks ago.

Westfield's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Maple Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Westfield was able to grind out a solid win over Maple Grove in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 72-62. Will Westfield repeat their success, or does Maple Grove have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
