Basketball Recap: Rock Ridge Takes a Loss

Rock Ridge lost against Heritage back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Rock Ridge Phoenix took a 47-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Heritage Pride. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Pride are ranked 70th).

When it comes to explaining why Rock Ridge lost, don't look at A.K Mo. Despite the final result, he shot 7-for-9 from deep and dropped a double-double with 41 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Mo a new career-high in blocks (five). Another player making a difference was D.K Johnson, who almost dropped a triple-double with nine points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists.

Heritage's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alex Cox, who posted five points along with five assists and three steals. Tyler Burns was another key player, putting up ten points.

Rock Ridge's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, Rock Ridge and Heritage will both be playing Tuscarora the next time they take the court. Rock Ridge will head out to face Tuscarora at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Heritage will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
