Basketball Game Preview: Pueblo County Hornets vs. Pueblo Central Wildcats

Pueblo County is 0-10 against Pueblo Central since February of 2020 but things could change on Thursday. The Pueblo County Hornets will look to defend their home court against the Pueblo Central Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Pueblo County was able to grind out a solid victory over Colorado Springs Christian, taking the game 47-40. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Meanwhile, Pueblo Central had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They blew past the Panthers 65-43. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Panthers are ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pueblo Central's win came from a few key players Pueblo County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ladamien Davis, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. He has become a key player for Pueblo Central: the team is 10-4 when he posts at least eight boards, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayden Jones, who posted 15 points.

Pueblo Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harrison only racked up seven assists.

Pueblo Central pushed their record up to 12-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.3 points over those games. As for Pueblo County, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
