Basketball Recap: Lakewood Ranch Mustangs vs. Riverview Sarasota Rams
After flying high against the Bayshore Bruins last Wednesday, the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs came back down to earth. Lakewood Ranch took a hard 76-58 fall against the Rams on Friday. Lakewood Ranch has not had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Lakewood Ranch lost, one person who can't be blamed is David Young. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. Another player making a difference was James Butler, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Lakewood Ranch has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Riverview Sarasota, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-8.
Lakewood Ranch's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Wolves on February 8th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Newsome is ranked 362nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 366th). As for Riverview Sarasota, they will take on the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Port knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully the Rams like a good challenge.
