Baseball Recap: Tri-County Academy Takes Down Riverfield Academy in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Tri-County Academy walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Riverfield Academy Raiders on Thursday. Considering the Rebels have won 17 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Crews Albritton made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Pettit, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Tri-County Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverfield Academy only posted an OBP of .320.

Tri-County Academy pushed their record up to 26-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Riverfield Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Coming up, Tri-County Academy will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against North Delta at 5:30 p.m. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Green Wave have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. Riverfield Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
