Baseball Recap: Freedom Comes Up Short

Freedom was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 4-1 to the Horizon Hawks. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Blake Echols was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Freedom saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hermes Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Garcia hit this season.

Freedom now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Horizon, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freedom will take on Winter Park at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Winter Park's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Freedom's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Horizon, they will square off against Lake Nona at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Lake Nona has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
