Orange County waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hickory Hawks, sneaking past 69-67. Given the Fighting Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Hawks are ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Orange County's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Hickory, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Orange County will be taking part in a tournament against Norfolk Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Orange County is facing Norfolk Academy at the right time seeing as Norfolk Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Hickory, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cox at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
