Baseball Game Preview: Newton Eagles vs. Altamont Indians

The Newton Eagles will square off against the Altamont Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Newton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Newton came up short against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine and fell 7-4.

Drake Wolf was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Gavin Meinhart, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Altamont put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Casey-Westfield by a score of 5-2.

Zaine Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.

On the hitting side, Altamont saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Elam, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Elam snagged this season.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Altamont, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Newton might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Altamont in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Newton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
