League recap: Northwest Area scores huge upset over Lake-Lehman

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Northwest Area, who took down 213th ranked Lake-Lehman, 20-7.

GAR Memorial extended the longest winning streak in Wyoming Valley 2A/1A this week by beating Hanover Area, 35-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Grenadiers.

Wyoming Area's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick O?brien threw for 67 yards and Cody Schmitz had 54 yards receiving. On the ground O?brien chipped in 233 yards. Trent Grove helped Wyoming Area's passing attack out by catching one ball for eight yards.

GAR Memorial's Corey Moore and Lucas Benton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Moore has thrown for 1059 yards this season, while Benton, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 37 catches for 508 yards. O?brien from the Warriors leads the league in rushing with 1062 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wyoming Area takes on Paul Wiedlich's team. As it stands, Randy Spencer's team is in first, while the Grenadiers are in third.

There should be lots of points scored when the Warriors and GAR Memorial face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Wyoming Area comes in having scored 254 this season, while the Grenadiers have scored 162. The Warriors scored 50 points last week as they beat Elmer L. Meyers.

The Rangers moved up to 390 from 462 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Wyoming Valley 2A/1A. Northwest Area climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Knights 20-7.
