Basketball Recap: Oakland Takes a Loss

Oakland was the 66-60 winner over Cookeville when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Oakland Patriots were beaten by the Cookeville Cavaliers 71-35 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while the Cavaliers are ranked seventh).

Leading Cookeville to victory were Macy Hudson and Cara Lee Gilbert. Hudson dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Gilbert posted 17 points and three steals. Those 19 points gave Hudson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Gillies, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points.

Oakland's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Cookeville, their win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Oakland will head out to face off against Stewarts Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cookeville and Loretto will compete for holiday cheer at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Loretto is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season.
