Softball Recap: Deep Run Wins Going Away Against Mechanicsville

Deep Run hadn't done well against Mechanicsville recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 13-1 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 12 runs or more this season.

Hope Tate made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Gabby Chrapek was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Brooke Black also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Deep Run always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mechanicsville only posted an OBP of .125.

Deep Run's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mechanicsville, their record is now 1-4.

Coming up, Deep Run will challenge Atlee at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mechanicsville, they will take on Hanover at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
