Trinity Lutheran is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Shawe Memorial a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Trinity Lutheran Cougars will welcome the Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers at 5:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Oldenburg Academy hit Trinity Lutheran with a nine-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars lost 12-6 to the Twisters.
Brody Brown was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Brown was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Nathan Finke was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jonah Harker, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Shawe Memorial might've scored the first runs on Wednesday, but it was Jac-Cen-Del who claimed the real prize. The Hilltoppers came up short against the Eagles, falling 13-2.
Shawe Memorial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Hill, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Shawe Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Trinity Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Trinity Lutheran's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Shawe Memorial, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Trinity Lutheran continue to outrun the ball?
Trinity Lutheran took their win against Shawe Memorial in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Hilltoppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
