Softball Recap: Berlin Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

It's playoff time, and Berlin had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Bristol Central Rams with a sharp 16-4 victory on Monday. The Redcoats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Callie Jehning made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Julia Matan was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Izzy Andersen, who went 2-for-3 with two triples and three runs.

Berlin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Berlin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Bristol Central, they dropped their record down to 4-14 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Berlin will take on E.O. Smith/Tolland at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bristol Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
