Soccer Game Preview: Avery County vs. Owen

Avery County is 1-9 against Owen since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Avery County will host Owen at 6:00 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Avery County is looking to tack another W on to their season record, something they couldn't quite do against Madison on Monday. Neither Avery County nor Madison could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Owen came up short against NCSSM: Morganton on Wednesday and fell 3-1. While losing is never fun, Owen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 275th, while NCSSM: Morganton are ranked 120th).

Owen's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1-1 and their overall record down to 2-3-1. Avery County's draw makes their record 5-3-1 this season.

Avery County couldn't quite get it done against Owen in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can Avery County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
