Baseball Recap: Chelsea Red Devils vs. Everett Crimson Tide
Chelsea extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They came up short against the Everett Crimson Tide, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crimson Tide this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 on April 10th.
As for Everett, their win bumped their record up to 7-5. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.
For Everett's part, Jose Portillo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Portillo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tyler Freni was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since April 3rd. Another player making a difference was MJ Guida, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Coming up, Chelsea will look to defend their home field on Friday against Excel Academy Charter at 3:30 p.m. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.83 runs per game on average), something the Red Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Everett, they will head out on the road to take on Charlestown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
