Basketball Game Preview: Clovis Wildcats vs. Lovington Wildcats

Clovis is 9-1 against Lovington since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Clovis Wildcats will head out to take on the Lovington Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Clovis sitting on five straight victories and Lovington on six.

Clovis can't be too worried about heading out to take on Lovington: they just beat Dexter at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Clovis breezed by Dexter to the tune of 63-28 on Monday. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 23 points or more this season.

Clovis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gianna Cordova led the charge by going 8 of 14 on her way to 19 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Cordova has posted since back in December of 2023. Kerrington Goff was another key player, going 7 for 11 en route to 15 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lovington challenged Jal on Friday. Lovington simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Jal 68-23. That 45 point margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.

Lovington has also been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Clovis, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

Clovis strolled past Lovington when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 53-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clovis since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
