Basketball Game Preview: Northeast Vikings vs. Dunedin Falcons

The Northeast Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Dunedin Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northeast will be strutting in after a victory while Dunedin will be coming in after a loss.

Northeast is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Hollins 52-17 on Monday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Vikings with their most commanding win of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jy'Aira Washington, who went 11 for 22 on her way to 23 points in addition to five boards and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Washington has scored at least a third of Northeast's points. Another player making a difference was Lila Speights, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Dunedin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Largo and fell 61-22. The Falcons were down 46-17 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Dunedin's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Northeast, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10.

Northeast came up short against Dunedin in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 41-36. Can Northeast avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
