Baseball Recap: West Carroll Takes a Loss

After flying high against Clarksburg last Monday, West Carroll came back down to earth. The West Carroll War Eagles took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clarksburg Rockets on Tuesday. The War Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rockets earlier this season, when they won 11-3.

Drake O'Bryan and Caleb Vermillion stepped up to the plate in a big way. O'Bryan scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Vermillion got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base. Those RBI were Vermillion's first of the season. Cole McMinn was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: West Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

West Carroll's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Clarksburg, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Carroll will challenge Gleason at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gleason will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Clarksburg, they will face off against Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Clarksburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
