Point Loma had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.2 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 73-72 photo finish over the Coronado Islanders. Given the Pointers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Islanders are ranked 617th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Point Loma's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grant Stewart, who went 7 of 17 en route to 23 points along with eight boards and three steals. Stewart is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Na'Sean Hardy, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.

Point Loma smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Point Loma's record now sits at 14-2. As for Coronado, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Point Loma will welcome Canyon Hills at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Point Loma's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matchups. As for Coronado, they will venture away from home to face off against Madison at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Madison is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.5 points per game this season.
