Baseball Recap: Halifax Academy Vikings vs. Southampton Academy Raiders
After flying high against St. John's Catholic Prep last Friday, Halifax Academy came back down to earth. The Halifax Academy Vikings suffered a rough 12-2 loss at the hands of the Southampton Academy Raiders on Tuesday. Halifax Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Southampton Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.
Halifax Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braxton Hammack, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Hammack has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive pitching appearances.
On Southampton Academy's side, Grayson Holland was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ethan Webb, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Halifax Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Southampton Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
Halifax Academy is on the road again on Wednesday to play Rocky Mount Academy at 6:30 p.m. As for Southampton Academy, they will face off against Amelia Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Amelia Academy will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Southampton Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
