Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks vs. West Broward Bobcats

The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks will face off against the West Broward Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Archbishop McCarthy will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Archbishop McCarthy proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Miami Christian a 2-0 shutout.

Archbishop McCarthy got a great performance from Xavier Domenech as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Domenech a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Archbishop McCarthy's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Danny Machado, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Machado is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, West Broward made sure to put some runs up on the board against Coral Springs Charter on Friday. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-3 victory.

Derek Sclafani looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Ethan Lindor was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ivan Sabater, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

West Broward was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coral Springs Charter only posted a batting average of .190.

Archbishop McCarthy pushed their record up to 12-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for West Broward, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
