Villa Park and Foothill are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Villa Park Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the Foothill Knights at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Villa Park: 3.2, Foothill: 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Villa Park will head out to face Foothill after giving up their first home loss of the season on Monday. Villa Park fell just short of Cypress by a score of 1-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Spartans were not able to get on the board.
Jake Nobles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Villa Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gunner Santillo, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Santillo hit this season.
Meanwhile, Foothill waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Golden Hawks with a sharp 7-0 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kyle Telson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, AJ Nagler was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Sean Green was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Foothill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Dorado only posted a batting average of .192.
Foothill pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.75 runs across that stretch. As for Villa Park, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 5-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Villa Park has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. However, it's not like Foothill struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Villa Park came up short against Foothill in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 7-2. Can Villa Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
