Basketball Recap: Cotulla Takes a Loss

Cotulla extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-5. They had to suffer through an 83-47 loss at the hands of the Madison Mavericks. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1318th, while the Mavericks are ranked 328th).

Cotulla lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jordan Charo, who went 6-for-15 en route to 16 points. Rene Barrera was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight boards and three steals.

As for Madison, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Madison's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Branden Pryor, who shot 64% from the field to rack up 19 points. That's the most points Pryor has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexander Brooks, who made all 7 shots he took racking up 14 points and five rebounds.

Cotulla wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 77-66 defeat against Santa Maria on the 5th. As for Madison, they have also already played their next contest, a 64-47 win against Miller on the 5th.
