Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Taylor Rhienhart and Olivia Shidler Lead Clay City to Victory

Clay City's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Dugger Union Bulldogs by a score of 47-37. That's more bragging rights for the Eels, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Clay City to victory were Olivia Shidler and Taylor Rhienhart. Shidler went 8 for 20 on her way to 22 points and three steals, while Rhienhart dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Those three steals gave Shidler a new career-high. Abigale Shearer was another key player, putting up five points.

Clay City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Dugger Union's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jordyn Smith, who posted 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals, and Sage Stahl, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Stahl has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 15 times she's played.

Clay City's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for Dugger Union, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Clay City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-17 loss against Northview on the 28th. As for Dugger Union, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 43-30 defeat against Martinsville on the 25th.
