Baseball Recap: Waterville Panthers vs. Leavitt Hornets

Waterville had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-1 to make it seven. They came up short against the Leavitt Hornets, falling 12-2. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 18-1 to the Hornets when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Waterville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Hamlin, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Leavitt, the win got them back to even at 1-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

On Leavitt's side, Ryder Sawyer-Brown made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Sawyer-Brown was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Leavitt got a massive performance out of Trent Holst, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Randan Hutchinson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waterville will take on John Bapst Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Leavitt, they will square off against Gardiner at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
