Basketball Recap: Monarch Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Monarch, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Niwot Cougars by a score of 70-57 on Tuesday. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Cougars are ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dylan Ehrnstrom was a one-man wrecking crew for Monarch as he went 9-for-14 to rack up 25 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Ehrnstrom a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Logan Laverty, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 13 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rohit Das, who went 6-for-11 en route to 20 points. LT Lehman was another key player, putting up 12 points and five steals.

Monarch pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points over those games. As for Niwot, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.

Coming up, Monarch will welcome Fairview at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fairview has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Niwot, they will face off against Frederick at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
