Basketball Recap: Hadley Shipley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Faith Academy over Live Oak Classical

Faith Academy lost against Live Oak Classical back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Faith Academy Flames took a hard 47-32 fall against the Live Oak Classical Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Flames can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1294th, while the Falcons are ranked 564th).

Several Flames players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hadley Shipley, who posted 11 points and seven boards. Shipley is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games she's played. Natalie Weems was another key player, putting up seven points and 17 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Faith Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Live Oak Classical's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stella Sriram, who earned 17 points along with six steals and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Smith, who put up eight points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Faith Academy's record is now 6-20. As for Live Oak Classical, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Faith Academy will welcome Central Texas Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Live Oak Classical, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. Live Oak Classical is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Lutheran a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
