Basketball Game Preview: Tularosa Wildcats vs. Magdalena Steers

Tularosa and Magdalena are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Tularosa Wildcats just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Magdalena Steers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tularosa is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

On Friday, Tularosa had to suffer through a 63-27 loss at the hands of West Las Vegas. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Dons are ranked 26th).

Meanwhile, Magdalena opened the new year with a less-than-successful 47-40 loss to Fort Sumner/House. The Steers haven't had much luck with Fort Sumner/House recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Tularosa's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Magdalena, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2.

Tularosa didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Magdalena when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 52-48 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tularosa since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
