Softball Game Preview: Clayton Comets vs. Rolesville Rams

The Clayton Comets are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Rolesville Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Clayton earned a 5-1 win over East Wake. The victory continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won five in a row.

Izzy Tart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Clayton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Khloe Benson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Delaney Maynard, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Clayton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Wake struck out 14 times.

Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Rolesville, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 13-9 win over Northern Nash on Friday.

The team relied heavily on Sadie Smith, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two triples, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Marissa D'Antonio was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Clayton's record is now 2-0. As for Rolesville, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Everything went Clayton's way against Rolesville when the teams last played on Tuesday, as Clayton made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clayton since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
