Football Recap: Canyon Lake Comes Up Short

After flying high against Uvalde two weeks ago, Canyon Lake came back down to earth. The Hawks had to suffer through a 46-14 loss at the hands of the Davenport Wolves. The Hawks have struggled against the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Canyon Lake still got an impressive performance from Jace Wheeler, who threw for 232 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 39 yards and one touchdown.

While Canyon Lake came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Davenport: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 48.1%. The team can thank Cash Ziemba for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Canyon Lake; they were averaging 60.4%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 60.4%.

Canyon Lake didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Carter Prieto and Jacob Price. Eli Hammons was another major factor on D, making 18 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Davenport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Barrett Fallon, who rushed for 147 yards and one score. Fallon's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 111 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Scott, who picked up 116 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Canyon Lake's record now sits at 6-3. As for Davenport, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Canyon Lake wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-13 victory against Pleasanton on the 7th. Davenport does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
