Softball Recap: Bunker Hill Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

Bunker Hill won the last time they faced East Burke and things went their way on Friday too. The Bears came out on top against the Cavaliers by a score of 7-3.

Serena Thurman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alexis Stuebe and Ivy Bowman did most of the damage at the plate: Stuebe scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Bowman scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Bowman a new career-high in doubles (two). Victoria Bentley was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Bunker Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Burke only posted an OBP of .160.

Bunker Hill has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for East Burke, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
