The Master's Academy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Lake Lure Classical Academy Raptors at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Master's Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 583rd, while Lake Lure Classical Academy is ranked 273rd).
The Master's Academy posted their biggest victory yet this season last Friday. They blew past Haywood Christian Academy 46-25.
The Master's Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ben Davis led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Holiday, who scored 11 points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Lake Lure Classical Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 72-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Veritas Christian Academy. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lake Lure Classical Academy in their matchups with Veritas Christian Academy: they've now lost nine in a row.
Lake Lure Classical Academy's defeat came about despite a quality game from Da'Zirus Watkins, who scored 23 points along with six assists and three steals. Watkins is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Justin Barker, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
The Master's Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Lake Lure Classical Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
The Master's Academy suffered a grim 73-51 defeat to Lake Lure Classical Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Watkins, who scored 23 points along with three steals.
