Baseball Recap: Chiefland Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Chiefland lost to Crystal River back in February, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. Chiefland sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Crystal River.

Garrett Byrd looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Chiefland is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Chiefland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jolan Doty, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Colton Brown also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Chiefland's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-6. As for Crystal River, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.

Chiefland and Crystal River could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Chiefland will square off against Trenton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday down 217 places (339 vs. 122). Meanwhile, Crystal River (ranked 451st) will meet Newberry (ranked 160th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
