Softball Recap: Academy of Our Lady of Peace's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Academy of Our Lady of Peace can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They blew past the Mar Vista Mariners 11-4. The Pilots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Grace Paine looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Samantha Gehler was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Maggie Baribault was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-9. As for Mar Vista, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy of Our Lady of Peace will venture away from home to take on Scripps Ranch at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Pilots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mar Vista, they will square off against Otay Ranch at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last six games the Mustangs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
