Basketball Recap: Newton County Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

Newton County extended their postseason success on Saturday against New Albany. They had just enough and edged the New Albany Bulldogs out 71-68. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since December 1, 2023.

When it comes to explaining why New Albany lost, don't look at Issac Gilbert. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Gilbert also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kylan King, who went 8-for-14 to rack up 16 points.

Newton County has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points over those games. As for New Albany, their loss dropped their record down to 21-8.

As of now, neither Newton County nor New Albany have any future games scheduled.
