Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Lytle

Lytle entered their tilt with Poteet on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Everything went their way against the Poteet Aggies as they made off with an 89-67 victory. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 647th, while the Aggies are ranked 1327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lytle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Guevara, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. The match was Guevara's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zacharee Perez, who went 8 of 11 en route to 22 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Lytle was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poteet only posted nine assists.

Broox Avelar and Jayson Rodriguez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Avelar went 8 for 16 on his way to 21 points and three steals, while Rodriguez went 7 of 13 en route to 20 points. That's the most steals Avelar has posted since back in November of 2024. Matthew Pacheco also deserves some recognition as he scored his first point of the season.

Lytle's record is now 14-8. As for Poteet, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.

Lytle has already played their next contest, a 96-69 victory against Cotulla on the 20th. As for Poteet, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-58 loss against Hondo on the 20th.
