Basketball Recap: Makyah Chambers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Neah Bay over Port Angeles

Neah Bay entered their match against Port Angeles on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Neah Bay Red Devils took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Port Angeles Roughriders. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Red Devils came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Roughriders are ranked 211th).

Neah Bay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makyah Chambers, who posted 18 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Seactis Woodruff, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Neah Bay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Neah Bay's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2. As for Port Angeles, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-7.

Neah Bay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-28 win against Chief Kitsap Academy on the 15th. Port Angeles has also already played their next game, a 66-48 defeat against Kingston on the 14th.
