Baseball Recap: Sheboygan South Comes Up Short

Sheboygan South extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 30 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They came up short against the Green Bay Southwest Fighting Trojans, falling 12-2. If the Redwings were looking for revenge after losing 7-0 to the Fighting Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Sheboygan South saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Heling, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That hit was Heling's first of the season.

As for Green Bay Southwest, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-13 record. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On Green Bay Southwest's side, Rexford LeClair made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave LeClair a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Green Bay Southwest got a massive performance out of Braxton Murphy, who went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and one stolen base. Murphy has become a key player for the Fighting Trojans: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Langenberg, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Looking ahead, Sheboygan South will venture away from home to square off against Green Bay Preble at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Redwings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Green Bay Southwest, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Green Bay East at 6:00 p.m.
