Basketball Recap: Zephyrus Schuessler Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Denver Academy

Clear Creek won the last time they faced Denver Academy and things went their way on Thursday too. The Clear Creek Golddiggers walked away with a 64-51 victory over the Denver Academy Mustangs. The Golddiggers didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.

Clear Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zephyrus Schuessler, who dropped a triple-double with 19 points, 14 boards, and 12 assists. The match was Schuessler's third in a row with at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Weichel, who posted 12 points and five steals.

Schuessler wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Clear Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Denver Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Janssen, who put up 21 points and six rebounds. Janssen is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Harrison Dority, who scored 13 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Clear Creek's record is now 7-15. As for Denver Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Clear Creek is taking a road trip to square off against Dawson School at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Schuessler and Milo Richtel. As for Denver Academy, they will face off against Gilpin County at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Gilpin County is coming into the matchup with ten straight defeats on the road, meaning Denver Academy will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory.
