Volleyball Recap: Viera Starts off Right with Win over West Shore

Viera took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the West Shore Wildcats. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won eight in a row.

The match came down to the wire multiple times:three sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-27, 26-24, 25-18.

Leading Viera to victory were Allie Brown and Ella Brand. Brown had 24 assists and 11 digs, while Brand had nine aces and five digs. Those nine aces gave Brand a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Viera was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 13 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

West Shore's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Alice Lin, who had 14 digs and three aces, and Ryleigh Donohue, who had ten digs and two aces. Lin is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played dating back to last season.

Viera wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Bishop Moore on the 21st. As for West Shore, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Eau Gallie on the 21st.
